Agatha Christie in Devon Podcast

Agatha Christie spent the first 30 years of her life in Devon and later bought her holiday home, Greenway, on the banks of the River Dart. This podcast, hosted by Sophie Pierce and Matt Newbury, tells the story of her life in Torquay and the surrounding area and how her love for the area influenced her characters and work.

Each episode was recorded live in the real places from Agatha’s life story, including Dartmoor, Burgh Island, Ugbrooke House, Greenway, Cockington and aboard the Dartmouth Steam Railway. The presenters also visited sites right across Torbay, providing an evocative and unique glimpse into Agatha’s life in the area.

Each episode also features experts and guests helping tell the story and sharing why they love the author so much. Guests include Mathew Prichard, Laura Thompson, Val McDermid, Dr Mark Aldridge, Dr Jamie Bernthal-Hooker, Hilary Macaskill, Carla Valentine, Victoria Dowd, Stephanie Austin, David Morris and many more.

Whether you have visited the area or it remains a bucket list dream, the podcast is a must for lovers of Agatha Christie and the unique settings that inspired her.

It was funded by Torbay’s Local Heritage Grant Scheme, which is a collaboration between Torbay Council, Torbay Culture, and the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark, and made possible thanks to investment from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
